Sports Firearms

Prior to entering the country with a sports firearm, the interested person will have to request a temporary permit, which is granted by the Registro Nacional de Armas (National Firearm Registry), division of the Servicio de Material y Armamento, which is the agency responsible for the control of the firearms in the country.
Should a temporary permit be requested, it will have to be done in writing to the Registro Nacional de Armas, either by fax (5982) 355 4153 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Such request will have to include the personal information on the owner (including full name, address, phone number, passport number), all the information pertaining to the firearm, the place where it is planned to use it and the dates of its use, and the details on the point of entry and exit, including flight number.)
Should such permit be granted, the Registro Nacional de Armas will issue a permit which is valid for 30 days and a person will be present at the point of entry and exit to verify the firearm and the identity of the holder.
It is important to bear in mind that the only firearms allowed are caliber 22 long considered sports firearms.
Should someone arrive in the country without the required permit, the firearm will be confiscated by the Customs Officers and will remain in custody until the owner files for and receives a permit.
