New Passport

The new digital passports (which meet the international standards on safety of information) have a total validity of 5 (five) years from the date of issuance, are issued in Uruguay and to apply for one, the requirements are the following:

A/ OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE:


1.- Personal appearence at the Consulate General in LA, carrying only the previous passport and the Cedula de Identidad.

1a.- Should one of those documents be lost or stolen, a police report should be presented.

1b.- Should the applicant does not have the Cedula de Identidad, either because it was lost, stolen, or if the applicant never filed for one, please  click here to know the details of what has to be added to the paperwork, or what has to be done before applying. 

2.- Application Form, which can be downloaded below and has to be emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it in advance.

3.- Should any change in the information contained in the previous passport occurs, the corresponding documentation will have to be provided (such as marital status, profession, address, etc).

4.- The Consulate General will capture the picture, the fingerprint and the signature in an electronic way, and will send them to Montevideo together with the other information provided in advance, and approximately six weeks afterwards the passport will arrive to be delivered to the applicant, either in person or by mail. If the latter, the applicant will have to send a self addressed prepaid envelope with tracking number or confirmation number.


B/ UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE:

Apart from what is mentioned in para A/, both parents or legal guardians will have to sign an authorization, for which they will have to present their respective ID, together with a birth certificate of the child or the family book where the child is registered. If one of the parents is deceased, a death certificate will have to be presented.

C/ LEGAL CITIZENS:

Apart from what is mentioned in para A/, the applicant will have to present  the "Carta de Ciudadania" (citizenship document), the "Credencial Civica" (Voting ID) and proof that no other citizenship has been acquired (green card or visa).

The cost of a new passport is U$S 84,00, and can be paid in cash, a money order or a Cashier's Check issued to "Consulado del Uruguay LA".

Starting June 28th 2012 the consular fee for this paperwork is US$ 56.

 It is recommended that once that the person has all the documentation and money required, he/she coordinate an appointment, so the new passport can be issued and delivered when applying for it.
