New Passport

The new digital passports (which meet the international standards on safety of information) have a total validity of 5 (five) years from the date of issuance, are issued in Uruguay and to apply for one, the requirements are the following:

Renewing a passport

Uruguayan passports issued previously to the digital ones, or issued by a Consulate of Uruguay, have a validity of five (5) years from the date of issuance, and can be renewed only once for five (5) more years, expiring definitely after 10 years. If that is the case of your passport, you can file for a renewing of such booklet, either in person orby mail, for which the requirements are the following:

Travel authorization for minors

The Travel Authorization for Minors is a document containing an express authorization provided by those adults holding the parental rights or legal gardianship of a child under the age of 18.  Such authorization is mandatory with no exception to either obtain a new passport or renew one.

This document, which has to be signed before processing a new passport or renewing one, requires the presence of those adults legally responsible for the minor in question, who will have to present the following documentation:

Return travel document

If a person does not have the required documentation to apply for a passport, a return travel document can be issued by the Consulate General. Such document is called "Valid for one trip" .
