Obtaining Vital Records

Uruguayan Vital Records and their Certificates are issued within national borders and may be requested in person, through a third party with no legal representation or via internet.

The agencies that issue such documents are:

- General Division of  the Civil Registry (Direccion General del Registro de Estado Civil) which is part of the Ministry of Education and Culture, located on  Uruguay 933, phone number (598) 2900 50 85.

- City Halls (Intendencias Municipales), which issued those documents exclusively from their jurisdiction, with exception of those events that took place the current year. These have to be requested at the Office where the registration of the event took place.

Citizen Service Centers (Centros de Atencion Ciudadana) outside the capital city of Montevideo. For a list of these centers, click  here, and you will access to direct forms of contact with those Centers to inquire on possibilities to obtain vital records via internet.
